TV Mounting Above a Fireplace in Chicago
Above the fireplace is one of the most popular places for a TV in Chicago homes, and one of the trickiest. We check the wall and the space above the firebox first, then mount the TV so it's secure and angled for comfortable viewing.
- From $110
- Drywall, brick or concrete
- Open daily 8 AM – 8 PM
What we check first
- The wall. We mount above fireplaces on drywall, brick and concrete.
- The structure. If the wall or chimney breast can't safely hold your TV, we'll tell you and won't mount it.
- Heat. The wall above a working fireplace can get warm, so we look at the mantel and the space above the firebox before choosing where the TV goes.
- Viewing height. A TV above a fireplace sits higher than usual. A tilting or full-motion mount that angles the screen down makes watching more comfortable.
Pricing
Above-fireplace mounting uses our regular prices, based on TV size: $110 under 50", $150 for 50–64", $170 for 65–79" and $230+ for 80" and larger. Brick or concrete adds $100, so a 65-inch TV above a brick fireplace comes to $270.
Prices assume you have your own mount. If you don't, we can bring one for an extra charge. A travel fee of $50+ applies outside Chicago city limits.
What we don't do
- Stone. We don't mount on stone, so stone fireplaces are out. Drywall, brick and concrete are fine.
- Pull-down mounts. We don't install pull-down fireplace mounts such as MantelMount.
- Hidden cables. We don't run cables through the wall or chimney, so power and HDMI cables hang below the TV. Plan the TV's position with your outlet in mind.
We'd rather tell you up front than improvise on your fireplace.

Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to mount a TV above a fireplace?
Often, yes, but it depends on the wall and on how much heat reaches it. We check both before we start. If the structure can't safely hold the TV, we'll tell you and won't mount it.
Can you mount a TV on a stone fireplace?
No. We don't mount on stone at all. Fireplace walls of drywall, brick or concrete are fine.
Do you install pull-down mounts like MantelMount?
No. For fireplaces we install fixed, tilting and full-motion mounts. Tilting is the most common choice because it angles the screen down toward the couch.
How much does it cost to mount a TV above a fireplace?
The same as any wall: from $110 depending on TV size, plus $100 for brick or concrete. A 65-inch TV above a brick fireplace is $270.
Can you hide the wires above the fireplace?
No. We don't run cables through the wall or chimney, so the cables will hang below the TV.
